Your Child’s First Visit

Infant

Many parents call to ask when their child should first see the dentist. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that a child’s first visit to the dentist should be no later than 6 months after the eruption of the first tooth. Research indicates this relatively new concept in dentistry will help prevent future problems.

Much of an infant's dental visit is geared toward discussing what the parent can anticipate from their child’s oral growth and development. Dr Campbell will discuss strategies for a healthy start, guidance given and other useful information shared. We look at this visit as a clean slate for your child’s smile and want to give you all the tools you need to help preserve it.

Toddler-Adolescence

Your child’s first visit to the dentist is a special event which establishes the beginning of a relationship lasting many, many years. Your child will also have the opportunity to learn about healthy mouths and smiles and the habits which help to create and sustain them.

Your child will receive age-appropriate care. Oral hygiene instructions may be given, xrays may be taken, the teeth may be cleaned or fluoride therapy may be administered. It greatly depends on your child’s needs as every child is different.

Dr Campbell will also conduct a thorough oral examination, assess your child’s needs and discuss his findings with you.
