Oral hygiene

We hope the videos below will help you with understanding oral hygiene, and the techniques involved to ensure you enjoy excellent dental health.

Brushing Problem Areas

Cleaning your teeth effectively means getting to know your mouth's tricky spots, where food and bacterial plaque get trapped. If your teeth were flat, smooth, and regular in shape it would be easy.

Brushing the Gumline and Contact Areas

Brushing the gumline (sulcular brushing) is important to prevent cavities and periodontal disease.

Flossing

Neither brushing your teeth, nor rinsing with mouthwash removes bacteria-rich "biofilm" from between your teeth. The only effective way to clean between your teeth is to floss properly every day.

Use of an Interdental Brush

If you have fixed bridgework, braces or other dental work which connects adjacent teeth, cleaning under and around it with an interdental brush can prevent tooth decay and gum disease.

Dental Sealants and Fissurotomy

By some accounts, 80% of tooth decay begins in the pits and fissures of teeth. Toothbrush bristles may not be able to completely remove food from those areas. Dental sealants and fissurotomy techniques may help protect against these types of cavities.
